The Kripke Center supports projects in research, education, and service, as determined by its faculty. Kripke Interfaith Project The Kripke Interfaith Project is dedicated to improving the understanding between and among faith communities. The project is dedicated to both research and service. The project is overseen by a project coordinator and a community advisory committee consisting of members of the Creighton community and the Omaha Jewish, Christian, and Muslim communities. The research component of the project is dedicated to funding serious research in the various faith traditions through research grants, symposia, and seminars, and the results of the research will be communicated through lectures, fora, and publications. The service component of the Kripke Interfaith Project will include work outside the university, to encompass the Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Native American, and other faith communities in the greater Omaha area. The project will work with local faith communities to foster dialogue and understanding, by sponsoring round-table discussion groups, reading groups, and community events such as popular talks, plays, and social mixers. The events and activities of the project will be guided by a community advisory committee. Scriptural Reasoning Project The Kripke Center is sponsoring a three-year project in which Jewish, Christian, and Muslim scholars come together twice a year (in May and December) and read and comment on each other’s scriptures. The theme of the project is “covenant,” and the scholars will study foundational scriptural texts that articulate God’s relationship to the people – Jews, Christians, and Muslims. The goal of the project is to produce a tri-faith commentary on covenant. The project is coordinated by: Russell R. Reno Kripke Seminars The Kripke Seminars support the discovery and integration of knowledge in selected areas of religion and society through collaborative research and the communication of such knowledge through publications and public presentations. Religion and Society Symposia The Center periodically sponsors academic symposia on topics in religion and society. These symposia serve to facilitate dialogue and scholarship within the Creighton and larger academic community. The symposia are held under the direction of individual faculty of the Center. Previous symposia include:
Catholic Imagination Project The Catholic Imagination Project exists at Creighton University as an integral part of the University's Jesuit Catholic identity. The Catholic Imagination Project provides for the ongoing scholarly exploration of the Roman Catholic religious imagination (i.e., the distinctive intellectual, social, cultural, artistic, and ritual forms of expression the Roman Church has produced historically and in the contemporary world) through faculty discussion, public lectures and an archival collection available to the wider public. The project is coordinated by: Eileen Burke-Sullivan Klutznick - Harris Symposia The Center is a co-sponsor of the annual Klutznick - Harris Symposium (along with the Klutznick Chair in Jewish Civilization at Creighton University and the Harris Center for Judaic Studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln). Each year the Symposium brings together a diverse group of scholars to address a selected topic of Jewish civilization. The Center also publishes, with the Klutznick Chair, the proceedings of the Klutznick - Harris Symposium in the series, Studies in Jewish Civilization. The symposia are coordinated by: Leonard J. Greenspoon Lectures and Fora The Kripke Center supports ongoing lecture series and fora to stimulate faculty and educate students and members of the Omaha community. Current lecture series and fora include:
