Retaining Wall
A retaining wall runs along the southern boundary of the PPNB village. Composed of various sized cobblestones and sandstone blocks, it was constructed during the earliest phase of occupation—likely to prevent erosion—and appears to have been renovated over the entire occupational life of the site. Roughly 52 meters of the wall has been uncovered, which on the west side of the steps are preserved to a height of up to 2.2 meters, while east of the steps only a few courses remain. The stone staircase contained about five or six steps and provided access about one meter wide through the wall. Located further east one finds a structure, which may quite possibly have served as a cultic site.
