The course website is structured like a spiral notebook with section dividers. The navigation tabs on the right hand side of the page provide access to the different sections of the website. These navigation tabs are present on every page in the website. At the bottom of every page are two arrows. These arrows provide navigation between pages within a section. The right hand arrow takes you to the next page; the left hand arrow takes you to the previous page in the section (not necessarily the previously visited page). The welcome page, from which you reached this page, functions as the home page of the course. It can be reached from any page by clicking on the Welcome tab. The Syllabus tab gives access to the description and requirements of the course.
The Grading tab gives access to the grading criteria that will be used for the writing assignments of the course. The lectures page, accessible from the Lectures tab, provides a table of contents of all the course lectures. Each lecture is also accessible from its appropriate lesson page. Finally, the course materials page, reached by the Course Materials tab, provides a list of supplementary readings and resources for the course. These materials are also accessible on their appropriate lesson pages. The individual lectures and course material will require a generic login and password. This login and password is the same for all students in the course. The login and password will be supplied to you the first day of class. Scattered throughout the lectures are a series of green boxes labelled "Material Culture." These boxes contain thumbnail pictures that can be enlarged by clicking on them. An "email" icon (illustrated on the right) will be located at the bottom of every page. Clicking on this icon will launch your computer's mail program so that you can communicate with the professor outside of class. Navigation through the website is also facilitated by the picture of a female figurine located at the top of each page. Clicking on the figurine takes the browser to the previous page. (By the way, the figurine was a popular votive offering, perhaps for the purpose of securing fertility. It was found at Ashkelon, and dates to the seventh century BCE.) The "Home" icon at the bottom of every page will take you to my home page. |
