Welcome to THL 201 Reading the Old Testament. Through the readings, the written assignments, and the class discussions, you will learn to interpret the Bible and to make informed judgments about the interpretations of others.

The reading assignments have been designed to introduce you to the primary story of ancient Israel and the different genres in the Bible, and to inform you of the literary, social, and historical context of the Bible.

The written assignments have been designed to facilitate your learning of the skills of interpretation and critical evaluation.

The class discussions will serve as a vehicle for you, your fellow students, and the professor to interact and dialogue through interpreting biblical texts.
