 4. SACRAMENTAL THEOLOGY: STUDIES

Herbert Vorgrimler, Sacramental Theology, trans. Linda M. Maloney (Collegeville, MN: Liturgical Press, 1992).  Before Vatican II, sacramenta in genere was a fundamental area of theological reflection; since the Council, it has been somewhat overshadowed by so-
called liturgical theology.  However, this volume, by one of Karl Rahner’s colleagues,
offers a fine overview of key issues & doctrines.

Louis-Marie Chauvet, Symbol and Sacrament: A Sacramental Reinterpretation of Christian Existence, trans. P.  Madigan & M. Beaumont (Collegeville, MN: Liturgical Press, 1995).
A difficult, but important and quite influential work.  It offers what might be termed a postmodern sacramental theology.
