Christian
Theology is one of the oldest, richest, & most challenging intellectual
traditions in western culture. The Creighton Theology Department
is committed to exploring and participating in that tradition through
its
three Master of Arts (M.A.) graduate degrees:
the Master of Arts in Theology,
the Master of Arts in Christian Spirituality,
and the NEW Master of Arts in
Ministry.
These programs engage Christians of all denominations
in intensive study of developments
in the Christian theological tradition.
GENERAL
DESCRIPTIONS
The Master of Arts in Theology program explores the major
areas of contemporary theology: Biblical Studies, Systematic Studies,
Christian Life Studies (Moral Theology and Spirituality). The program
serves the growing number of professionals engaged in theological
and ministerial work in churches and schools, as well as those interested
in further exploration and appropriation of their faith.
The
Master of Arts in Christian Spirituality program combines knowledge
of Christian spirituality based on study of scripture, spiritual
masters, and contemporary theology with experiential appropriation
through prayer and shared reflection. This program prepares students
for the ministries of spiritual direction and retreat work, as well
as affording opportunity for personal enrichment.
The
NEW Master
of Arts in Ministry program, a cooperative venture between Creighton
University and the Archdiocese of Omaha, is designed to prepare
participants for professional ministry in the Church of the Roman
Catholic tradition. The program consists of three elements: study
of Scripture and the Catholic theological tradition, development
of personal and ministerial competencies,
and apostolic formation.
Our faculty, one of the most talented
groups of theological teacher-scholars in the Upper Great Plains,
is exemplary in combining dedication to scholarship
with commitment to teaching.
While valuing all religious traditions, members of the faculty,
consistent with the Catholic and Jesuit identity of the University,
conduct their theological inquiries within the Catholic-Christian
tradition.
Theological education at Creighton is further enhanced by the presence
of the Kripke Center for the Study of Religion and Society, the
Center for Marriage and Family, and the Graff Chair in Catholic
Theological Studies, all of which sponsor lectures, colloquia, and
fora that stimulate theological discourse on campus. These events
afford graduate students opportunity for dialogue with visiting
scholars as well as Creighton professors.
