Admission Requirements

REQUIREMENTS
Admission to the Master of Arts in Theology program requires
*a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution;
*an above average undergraduate academic record (B average);
*nine credit hours of undergraduate theology (or equivalent) that includes exposure to biblical studies, systematic theology, and moral theology or ethics;
*above average scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).

The Graduate School requires all students whose native language is not English to demonstrate competence in English with a score of 550 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or 213 on the Computer-Based Test (CBT) at the graduate level. Decisions on admission to the M.A. in Theology program are not made until TOEFL or CBT scores have been submitted.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES & DEADLINES
Applicants should contact the Graduate School to request application materials, or visit the Graduate School website to complete the on-line application form and download the recommendation forms.
The application to the Graduate School requires submission of: the application form, official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate work previously undertaken, GRE scores, three recommendations from people qualified to judge the applicant's academic abilities, application fee (and TOEFL or CBT scores, if applicable).

Deadlines and Decisions
For admission to summer and fall classes, all application materials must be submitted to the Graduate School by May 1. Decisions will be communicated by May 15.
For admission to spring classes, all application materials must be submitted to the Graduate School by December 1. Decisions will be communicated by December 15.

Once all required application materials have been received by the Graduate School and forwarded to the Program Director, generally, the decision is made and communicated within three weeks.

Those lacking the requisite undergraduate hours in theology are encouraged to delay formal application to the graduate program until completion of at least some (3-6) of the pre-requisite hours. Pre-requisites may be taken at Creighton by enrolling in University College. To apply for "special student" status in University College, contact Maureen Crouchley, crouchley@creighton.edu or (402) 280-2669.

In some cases, applicants are accepted into the graduate program on condition of completion of a preparatory program of pre-requisites designed in consultation with the Director of Graduate Studies in Theology. Such a program consists of courses in any of the areas in which an applicant lacks sufficient background to succeed in the graduate program: biblical studies, systematic theology, moral theology.
