Conference

Twelfth Annual NAPS Meeting, Loyola, Chicago

Thursday, May 29- Saturday, May 31, 1997.

The executive Board met Thursday morning and considered the following issues: the costs of the expanded journal (a burden now shared by JHUP and NAPS), rising cost of the conference, investing NAPS funds for income, new publications in the Patristic Monograph Series, the nomination of the new officers, and the annual meeting dates for next year.

The general meeting heard reports from Elizabeth Clark (Journal of Early Christian Studies), Joseph Lienhard (Patristic Monograph Series), John O'Keefe (Finances), and Rebecca Weaver (Nominations).

The following officers were nominated and elected unanimously:

Brian E. Daley (Notre Dame), President; Susan Ashbrook Harvey (Brown), Vice-President; J. Rebecca Lyman (Church Divinity School Pacific) and Dennis E. Trout (Tufts), Members-at-large.

The following out-going officers were thanked for generous and effective service to the society:

Patricia Cox Miller (Syracuse), President; Michel Barnes (Marquette), Member-at-large. Rebecca Weaver (Union), Chair, Nominating Committee.

Call for Papers

Thirteenth Annual NAPS Meeting, Loyola, Chicago, 28-30 May, 1998

If you wish to read a paper at the conference, please submit your paper title along with an abstract of approx. 200 words.

These should be sent by February 1, 1998 to:

Susan Ashbrook Harvey. Department of Religious Studies
PO Box 1927
Brown University
Providence, RI 02912

Queries and other correspondence may be sent to that addresss, or by e-mail to: Susan_Harvey@ Brown.edu

Abstracts, however, should be submitted in HARD COPY ONLY.

If you are willing to chair a session at the conference, please let Susan Harvey know. You need not be reading a paper to chair a session, but it would be helpful to know in what field of interest you would prefer to be involved. Proposals for entire sessions, usually made up of three papers, are also welcome, as are proposals for special sessions - discussions, for example, by several people of a recent book. Our goal is to make the conference as valuable as possible for all members, and we welcome all suggestions for improving the program of the annual meeting.

Meanwhile, thank you for your continuing interest, and for your help in making the annual NAPS conference an interesting and enjoyable gathering of scholars of early Christianity.

NAPS on the Net

NAPS now has a web site. Point your browsers to: http://puffin.creighton.edu/theo/naps/napshome.html

We would like this site to become a resource for Patristic scholars. Please send John O'Keefe any internet links that you think would be useful.

Directory

There will be no paper directory this year. However, JHUP is preparing an online version of the NAPS mailing list. It should be available to members soon.
