Center Launches a New Electronic Journal
In an effort to promote the study of religious groups and beliefs of the various peoples of the world, past and present, the Center for the Study of Religion and Society is preparing to launch the publication of a new cross-disciplinary, electronic journal entitled, appropriately, Journal of Religion & Society (ISSN 1522-5658).
The Journal of Religion & Society will be a refereed academic journal dedicated to the publication of scholarly research in religion and its diverse social dimensions. The journal will publish research articles, discussions and critical notes, and book reviews on all topics in religion and society. Ronald A. Simkins, the director of the Center for the Study of Religion and Society, will serve as the journal's general editor. John J. O'Keefe will serve as the book review editor. They will be assisted by an editorial board consisting of nationally recognized scholars in religion and society. Approximately half of the editorial board also serves on the Center's advisory board. To ensure the quality of publications and the best academic reputation for the journal, all submissions to the journal will be subject to blind peer review.

Although the journal is free and always accessible on the web, a subscription list has been established for the purpose of notifying subscribers when new material is published. Like the journal itself, subscription to the journal is free. One may subscribe to the journal through its website.
As an electronic journal taking full advantage of the World Wide Web, the Journal of Religion & Society will incorporate photos, graphics, and other media where appropriate in its articles. Moreover, the journal will publish material on an ongoing rather than a periodic basis, eliminating any backlog between acceptance and publication and also accelerating the publication of scholarly research. Each volume of the journal will be limited to the articles, discussions and critical notes, and book reviews published within a given calendar year. The first volume of the journal will begin publication during the summer of 1999.
